I jumped on the Kaya Scodelario as Thalia bandwagon, cause she does seem like a good fit. Another popular choice for any character with red hair, Rachel Hurd-Wood, is my Rachel. While I liked Jake Abel as Luke, Alex Pettyfer is really hot and pulls off that dark, tormented thing so I thought, Why not?
I love Logan as Percy. And nothing against the girl who played Annabeth but she just wasn't canon Annabeth. Amanda Seyfrield's a little too old, but Anna Sophia Robb, who I thought would be a good Annabeth is a little too young compared to the other actors.
Nicest Thing- Kate Nash
"I wish I was your favorite girl. I wish you thought I was the reason you were in the world."
This song is pretty dead on in describing Annabeth's early infatuation with Luke. She idolized him and sought his approval and affection and this is her somewhat childish wish for their relationship.
"You touch me for a little while and all my fragile strength is gone."
This details their relationship through most of the series. Although Luke betrays her time and time again, he still holds a power over her and she always seems to be coming back to him.
Elements- A Fine Frenzy
"I died the day you disappeared so why would you be welcome here? Oh the elements I do not fear, but fall apart when you appear."
I like this song for them because it both chronicles Annabeth's more bitter feelings towards Luke and the mention of sailing and elements hints at her relying on Percy to recover from Luke.
Cheers Darlin'- Damien Rice
"I die when you mention his name. I lie, I should've kissed you when we were running away."
This could be either from Luke or Percy's perspective. Percy can't stand Annabeth's devotion to Luke and I'm sure the idea of Percy and Annabeth sickens Luke. They're both jealous of the other one's importance to Annabeth.
Near To You- A Fine Frenzy
"Near to you, I am healing but it's taking so long. Though he's gone and you are wonderful it's hard to move on."
This is Annabeth's point of view as she and Percy get closer and she tries to get over Luke.
"But I promise you this. I'll always look out for you."
Just a sweet song! There were always sparks between these two.
All I Need- Mat Kearney
"And if all we got
Is what no one can break.
I know I love you.
That's all we can take."
I just like this song. It feels like a conflict is arising, such as in TLO, and the buildup is very romantic and desperate, as if their lives really are on the line.
Vienna- The Fray
"There goes the downpour.
Here goes my fare thee well."
I feel like this song is their angsty moments when they try to shut each other out.
You Belong With Me- Taylor Swift
"She'll never know your story like I do."
I think of this from Annabeth's perspective, as I feel she viewed Rachel as a usurper and that she was the one who'd been there all along and whatnot. I can't believe I actually included a TSwift song, but its fitting.
Change Is Hard- She & Him
"I know he's yours and he'll never belong to me again."
Rachel addressing Annabeth, say she's willing to accept that they're together as long as she doesn't rub it in too much.
Goodnight and Go- Imogen Heap
"Why'd you have to be so cute?
It's impossible to ignore you.
Must you make me laugh so much?
It's bad enough we get along so well."
I think this is a good example of the simple crush Rachel had on Percy and how she struggled with it, because of Annabeth and his whole half-god issue. Plus I like the underlying stalker tones, which match her eagerness!
Bird of the Summer- A Fine Frenzy
"I know I should recover, you're a bird of the summer.
I was wrong to try and capture you."
Rachel reflecting on her “fling” of sorts with Percy. He was pretty flighty and left her hanging a lot, which is what the song talks about and she accepts the end of their romance.
"I was young but I wasn't naïve.
I was helpless as you turned around to leave."
Luke and Thalia's relationship always seemed a little more mature than his with Annabeth's. He and Thalia were very close and I think more of equals. She was “dead” for five years, he turned to the Titan's side so I think they definitely have the edgiest relationship. This song's pretty perfect for them.
Cosmic Love- Florence and the Machine
"And in the dark, I can hear your heartbeat."
A beautiful song that I feel fits the mood of the relationship. It addresses how abandoned she felt upon realizing Luke's turn to evil.
Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)- Nancy Sinatra
"Seasons came and changed the time.
When I grew up I called him mine.
He would always laugh and say, 'Remember when we used to play?'"
With the references to shooting each other down and childhood and just the whole feel of the song, I found this perfect for them. The ending too, its just perfect.
"I say goodbye, I turn my back.
Run away, run away.
This song's about Luke realizing his wrongs and his redemption.
Sing It Out- Switchfoot
"Take what is left of me.
Make it a melody."
Luke's death and his desire to be redeemed and remembered as a hero. The song is just kind of epic and reminds me of TLO.
Bonus Track! (Not on the zip) Love The Way You Lie- Eminem
She ******* hates me."
I never saw Luke, Thalia and Annabeth's relationship as a love triangle. Aside from the romantic undertones, when it came down to it they were best friends who grew up together and helped each other survive. This song is about the conflict between love and hate between the three of them and how Thalia and Annabeth can't fully accept that he's evil. They still try to save him even though he betrayed them.
Just for fun!
Luke vs. Percy
Invincible- OK GO When they finally come to destroy the earth, they'll have to deal with you first, and now
my money says they won't know about the thousand Fahrenheit hot metal lights behind your eyes."
When they finally come to destroy the earth, they'll have to deal with you first, and now
Because they both took a dip in the Styx!
Take A Bow- Muse
“You'll burn in hell”
Unlike the girls, Percy believed Luke was unredeemable and had caused too much damage.
